DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2025

2025 is a pivotal year, since it’s officially the quarter mark of the 21st century!!

As the new year sets in, we tend to set high expectations to reach our goals for the year ahead. Change is always good…whether it’s adapting a new clothing style, haircut, lifestyle/fitness goals or even a home makeover. To start, why not plan for a kitchen remodel? This important room is no longer just a utilitarian space for cooking and meal prep. Rather, it’s evolved into the heart of the home to serve as a central hub for family life, social gatherings and personal expression.

Let’s explore the top trends that are expected to shape kitchens in 2025…

DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2025:

  1. The colour story…

    1. Softened bold colours. The soft muted tones of 2024 are still going strong, but they now have a hint of boldness. Sage greens, dusty pink and rich earthy brown pair beautifully with organic textures like stone and wood for contemporary sophistication.
    2. Blues and greens continue in popularity. They are soft, calming and create a sense of serenity as well as a fresh modern feel. These shades are a lovely alternative to neutral white and beige tones.
    3. Dark and earthy for drama and depth. Tones like deep greens and rich brown evoke a sense of connection to nature. Darker colours also make the room feel more intimate and stylish.

  2. Interesting lighting such as unique coloured glass, thick metals and natural materials (like rope and fabric) adds personality, texture, shape and unique details.
  3. Multi-zoned kitchens are designed with distinct areas for meal prep, cooking, entertaining, relaxing (and even remote work) but the spaces still flow together seamlessly.
  4. Warm woods and faux wood-finishes create a sense of cozy comfort.
  5. Statement backsplashes add more character than classic subway tiles. Think textured tiles, striking colours, metallic accents or intricate patterns that act as a focal point and add some exotic artisanal flair.
  6. Mixed metals add depth and a customized feel. Even the metals themselves are trending differently. Stark black and vibrant gold finishes are shifting to softer metals like unlacquered brass, oil-rubbed bronze and polished nickel. Just intentionally mix it up!
  7. Natural stone materials like marble, quartzite and soapstone add an earthier feel. However, man-made options (like quartz and porcelain) are still popular due to their durability.
  8. A “second” kitchen is a luxury if you have the space. A butler’s pantry off an open concept kitchen can hide untidiness. Smoothie-making, toasters, coffee bars and more are moving into the second kitchen…keeping the main space for entertaining, relaxing and dining. The more hidden, the better!

On behalf of the team at SKÖNA…we wish you a wonderfully fulfilling year ahead. May it bring you renewed energy, exciting opportunities and success in all your endeavours.
